On March 28th, loved ones gathered at The Farmhouse to celebrate Sam and Jake's beautiful wedding. It was an extra special day for all of us- Sam has worked at The Farmhouse for several years, helping countless couples bring their dream wedding day to life! It was heartwarming to see her finally experience the joy of her own special day! We couldn't be happier for them as they embark on this new journey together.
Of course Sam wanted to contribute to our Real Love Stories blog! Thursday morning, the day before their wedding, I chatted with the bride!
As you get ready for tomorrow, what words of encouragement would you give yourself to stay present and enjoy every moment?
Listen to every word when people are talking to you or even just around you. Really pay attention to everything going on. I already know it's going to fly by.
And are there any last thoughts or lingering feelings on your mind before the big day?
AHHHHH! (Haha, just kidding!) I'm just so excited and so thankful to already know ahead of time that I have the best team & I don't even have to worry about the day going smoothly. I can't wait to celebrate the marriage to my best friend after 14 years of being together!!!

How did you meet your significant other? How did he/she propose?
We met in 7th grade (middle school sweethearts)! We were in the same science class & we really connected when we started talking. We began dating shortly after! Jake proposed at our middle school while we were recreating old photos from middle school!! It was the cutest.
Why did you choose The Farmhouse for your wedding?
Working here, I do have the luxury to know everyone will do an amazing job, which is such a reassuring thing when choosing any vendor for your special day. So that definitely influenced my decision!! But overall, the familiarity, simplicity, inclusions/price, grounds, and food all were deciding factors!
Was there a particular moment at work that made you realize The Farmhouse would be the perfect venue for your wedding?
I’ve known I wanted to have our wedding at The Farmhouse far before we were engaged! I don't think there was a specific moment. It was the best option for how we envisioned our wedding going, plus less work for me! I’ve considered other options, like my grandma's house, but The Farmhouse was the best option for sure.
What was it like to work at the venue while planning your own wedding here?
It made my free time at work much more exciting! While waiting for couples to stop by our open houses, I was usually walking around brainstorming my floor plan and decor. It also made me pay more attention to & appreciate other couples' details/decor, looking out for any ideas I want to use too!
Was there anything about The Farmhouse that surprised you during your wedding day that you didn't expect, even though you've seen it all before?
I was incredibly shocked truly on how quickly the day goes by!
How has your role at The Farmhouse, as our manager, influenced the way you envision your wedding day?
Working at The Farmhouse for 9 years had really helped me think of every little detail needed to ensure a smooth wedding day. For example, the best timeline for what I envisioned, color palette, flow of the room, etc. I love all the decor we offer and include, but didn’t want my wedding to feel like work if that makes sense. So I added bud vases with fresh flowers to the centerpieces and DIY table numbers! Everything turned out exactly how I envisioned it.
What was one of your favorite moments on your wedding day?
The speeches!! They were all so special, I loved listening to our loved ones say things that they probably wouldn't just tell us on a regular day. I was definitely sobbing the entire time!!
What's something unexpected that you learned while planning your own wedding?
You really learn a lot about the people around you. Who truly helps you with planning vs who makes your life harder!
What song did you choose for your first dance? What other special details did you include on your big day?
We chose The Best Part by Daniel Caesar & H.E.R. We also did a private first dance in front of our wedding party and parents right before cocktail hour started, so we could have that special moment to ourselves. Some special details we included were framed photos from our elopement a few weeks prior, a framed “story of us”, some special items for our memorial table, and a golf ball from our engagement (for a late night flat lay!) The golf ball is a funny story- like a minute after we got engaged, a teenage boy asked us if we’ve seen his golf ball… we went back the next day and found it!
Since you've worked here for so long, do you have a favorite wedding tradition or detail that you love seeing other couples include in their wedding day?
I really recommend a first look! It calms some nerves of walking down the aisle while also giving you more time to actually enjoy cocktail hour with your guests. Jake and I got all of our photos done before & were able to mingle during cocktail hour! I also really love the extra photo elements people do for their wedding day like Polaroids and a photo booth. We did both!
Did you have any special requests or ideas to ensure your day went smoothly?
I told the staff to make sure I don't try to do anything work related!! I made the servers a list of details that I, as the manager, usually do at weddings that they may forget about. That list definitely helped me worry less. Thanks to our awesome team, I did not have to worry about a thing day-of! I also wanted to set up for my own wedding (because I’m a control freak & setting up is my favorite part of the job haha), but had tons of help from friends, family, and my coordinator Laura. I didn't have a ton of requests otherwise, I just trusted our team!!
Now that you've been on both sides- as a staff member and now a bride (yay!)- If you had one piece of advice for future couples, what would it be?
Take in every moment & enjoy it!! The day really flies by. I did my best to be in the moment and it still was here & gone so quickly!
